Summer Update #4: 7.25.12
Good morning --- I hope you are all having a fantastic summer! We still have 3 1/2 weeks left until we all return! I hope you enjoy this time and spend it relaxing and enjoying family & friends.
Here are just a few items to note...
Amended 2012-2013 Calendar
Please note that the school board adopted an amended version of the 2012-2013 school calendar. The only change is February 15th -- this is now a teacher inservice day with no students. This is the Friday before President's Day.
Welcome Aboard
On Monday evening, we hired Jason Lammers for our 1/2 time PE position. Jason has been a half time PE teacher at West Elementary and filled in for Randy Baker when he was out this past spring. He will be teaching the Weightlifting courses in the morning before heading to West for the afternoon.
We are excited to have Jason on board!
We are still in the process of hiring a science teacher and a new front office secretary. In case you didn't hear, Megan resigned earlier this month to take a position near Ft. Loramie, closer to home!
1st & 2nd Year Teachers & MENTORS
Those of you that are in your 1st or 2nd year as a teacher as well as those of you mentoring a 1st or 2nd year teacher involved in the Resident Educator program, please be aware that there is a meeting on August 9th. You should receive a mailing with information regarding this meeting. Let me know if you have questions.
Opening Day Information
Please refer to the calendar below for important opening week info. We will be having Freshmen Orientation on the 2nd teacher work day as we have the past couple of years. District and Building level meetings will take place on the 1st teacher work day (Monday). I will post more specific times in the next update!
Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Summer Update #3: 7.10.12
I hope you have been able to stay cool in this unusually hot summer.
Nothing much has changed here at CHS recently (check out the recent post Adding to the Bulldog Family if you haven't read it already), but here is the latest.
Superintendent Search
The school board has been in contact with OSBA (Ohio School Boards Association) who has been conducting the search for our new superintendent. As you probably already know, Steve Keller, former high school principal at Coldwater and Superintendent at Parkway, has been hired as an interim. Steve and Matt Miller have worked together for a few days during the last part of June to ease the transition.
I will keep you all posted on the search for a superintendent.
Elementary Summer School
Just as an FYI...
The elementary summer school program begins on July 23rd and will run until August 10th. The following classrooms will be in use from 7:30 - 11:30 each weekday:
101, 103, 105, 113, 115, 116, 119, 120, stage east, and stage west
Thanks for your understanding and patience.
HAVE A GREAT JULY!

Summer Update #2: 6.25.12
Hopefully you are having a great summer! Hard to believe that the month of June is nearly over!
I have just a few things to update you on today...
Freshmen Computer Apps Class
As many of you are aware, we have started a new class-- FRESHMEN COMPUTER APPS-- to take the place of an old class -- COMPUTER APPS. This new course is a graduation requirement and ALL freshmen will take the class during the 1st trimester. In addition to taking this course, all freshmen will have History A and English 9A during 1st trimester. If you are teaching one of these two core classes, be thinking of projects / assignments / homework you may be able to assign that could be incorporated into the course. Email or talk to Carol Bader or Chris Sutter to discuss this!
New Hires
As always, we are busy this month trying to fill vacancies in the teaching staff.
We recently hired Ryan Parrish as a half-time Technology Ed (CAD/Woods Tech) teacher AND half-time Special Ed teacher. We had these two positions posted separately (one to fill the vacancy left by Jon Clouse's retirement and the other as an additional Special Ed position to balance the IEP load per teacher). Ryan comes to us from Fort Loramie where he taught CAD and Woods courses. We are excited to have him on board!
We are now in the process of hiring a Science Teacher. In case you didn't hear, Andria Stammen resigned recently to take a position near Columbus as a high school science teacher. We will miss Andria and we are very sad to see her go.
77 Things for Teachers to Try this Summer
I found this really cool site that highlights 77 different technology tools teachers can try out (doesn't necessarily have to be this summer!). Check it out!

Summer 2012 Update #1
I hope your summer is off to a great start. I don't know about you, but the first week of summer almost felt like a 'bonus week' because we were out so early!
Over the past week, I have read through everyone's checkout survey. Its always good to hear the feedback on the school year... this year, it seems as though most of you had a good school year. A lot of you told me at checkout that this was "the best year" so far! Many of you indicated that after 2 years of being on the trimester, we are getting used to it!
We still have many things to work on and improve. I will be putting together some of the comments, feedback, and goals to help give us some direction on developing our building goals for next school year and moving forward. If you have any other comments or thoughts, please comment below!
Below are some updates and recent changes. Enjoy your June and don't forget to check back on June 25th!
Graduation
Thanks to those of you that attended graduation. We had great weather and a very nice ceremony. Make your plans now to attend Graduation 2013 on May 25th @ 10:30 AM!
Girls Track
In case you missed it, our Girls Track team performed very well at the State Track meet this past weekend. Overall, Celina Girls finished 4th in the state in Division II!
Hannah Fleck was the State Champion in the 800!!
Here is a list of accomplishments at the state track meet (thanks Dan Otten!):
Read more about the State Track meet by clicking here.
David Royse
David was a former student at CHS during the 07-08 & 08-09 school years. He recently passed away from a drowning accident at Eastview Pond in Celina. His brother, Dustin, will be a senior this upcoming school year at CHS and his sister, Katelyn Reis, will be a junior. Click here for calling hours and funeral information if you are interested.
Supplemental Intent Letters
All supplemental positions were posted near the end of the school year. If you had a supplemental position that you intend on keeping for next school year, please submit something to me stating your intent (i.e. email, short letter, etc.). There is one position that I know will need filled: Yearbook advisor. If you are interested in this, let me know.
End of Year Party
If you missed this, you missed a great time! Despite Derek Wenning almost burning down my house (see picture below), it was a great time. Amy and I plan to host this again next spring... we hope you will plan to come!
Next update...
will be posted on June 25th. Until then... post a comment with the summer activity you are looking forward to the most and have a great summer!

Summer Update #3 7.25.11
Less than 30 days now until students arrive… eager and ready
to learn at our door! Hard to believe
that summer has gone by so quickly, but it’s true (as usual) – summer is nearly
over.
I am sure all of you have had fun, exciting, and relaxing
summers, so I will keep this short – I don’t want to ruin your vacation by
making you think of school too much already!
Of course, as always, we have had many changes at CHS over the summer
and will continue to see some changes.
As you may or may not have noticed, we recently posted a job
opening: Sports Physiology & Athletic Trainer. Last week, Meta Dryer resigned to pursue a
different career path. She will be
greatly missed as she was a fantastic teacher, well-liked by the students, and
a knowledgeable and quality athletic trainer.
We thank her for her service to CHS.
We are dedicated to finding an adequate replacement that will help us
continue our athletic training program that has served many students so
well. Please let us know if you are
aware of anyone interested in the position.
On a lighter note, some technology changes are happening
relatively quickly.
- Many of you have already been using the new email client. Although not Google, it is much more user-friendly than the winged horse.
![]() |
| The bracket and wire for the office wireless router |
- CHS will soon have its own fully functional wireless network. The wires and brackets are in place, and Xirrus (the wireless provider), will be in soon to install the hardware.
- Recently, Mr. Miller, Mr. Gudorf, and I have been discussing the possibility of a grade-level 1-to-1 program. The particulars are still under discussion, but more than likely, we would be purchasing Acer Netbooks for one entire grade level with the intent that students can take the Netbooks home and would use the same Netbook for the remainder of their high school career. Details will follow soon.
That’s enough school talk for now…. Continue enjoying
summer!
Happy Birthday…

2011 Summer Update #2
Hard to believe that June is almost over. I certainly hope that everyone is enjoying their summer and has spent some time with friends & family!
Just a couple of quick updates for you for the summer.
Thanks for reading and have a great summer! Look for another post on the 10th!
Just a couple of quick updates for you for the summer.
- Hopefully everyone has been able to log into the new email service. A big thanks to Keith Gudorf and his crew for their work on getting this up and running so quickly. Hopefully we will find it to work more efficiently than the 'winged horse'!
- We have officially completed hiring for the summer... recently, we offered the final Math position to Tyler Foulkes. Many of you may remember him as a 2004 CHS grad. Congrats to Tyler and welcome aboard!
- Many of you attended the recent Safety and Violence Prevention Training offered by the ESC. If you were unable to attend and still need to meet the 4-hour requirement, the ESC has scheduled another session on August 2nd. Contact the ESC (419-586-6628) to reserve your spot. Remember that the state is now requiring ALL teachers K-12 to receive this training.
- 3rd floor cleaning and waxing is completed (painting has been done also). Our summer custodial crew has begun working on the 2nd floor -- those rooms are currently unusable. Thanks to the crew for their hard work!
- 6/30 Gary Findlay
- 7/8 Jim Dorsten
Thanks for reading and have a great summer! Look for another post on the 10th!

2011 Summer Update #1
First & foremost, I hope you are all enjoying your summer vacation so far! The weather sure did warm up quickly… where did spring go?
Since the staff has left, we have been busy hiring (and hiring and hiring…). Here is a list of people (full bio’s to come later) we have recently recommended to the board for hiring:
• Lisa Brunswick – Art
• Aaron Alig – Science
• Andria Stammen – Science
• Brad Siebert – Math
• Ashley Shaffer – English
• Katie Clouse – English
Congratulations to those individuals. Special thanks to those of you that participated in the interview process. It is a very time-consuming and grueling process for the candidates and those staff members that help. However, it is well worth the effort.
Speaking of staff changes… if you haven’t already heard the news, Jason Bockey has accepted a position as a Math teacher at Delphos St. John’s. Jason taught with us at Celina for 4 ½ years and we appreciate his service and dedication. He will be missed. We wish him luck in his new adventure!
Over the summer, I am sure many of you will be traveling or will have some other fun activities. Just to help us all stay connected, comment below and tell us what you are looking forward to doing this summer. I hope you all have some fun, exciting, and relaxing things planned!
I have created an online web album on Picasa where you can upload pictures of your summer activities. Maybe just a shot of the beach or the mountains, maybe a family shot with Mickey Mouse, or just a simple photo of anything summer related! This is simply intended as a fun way to share your summer fun with all of us! At the end of the summer, we will vote on the best photograph… prizes will be available! To view the album and upload your own pictures, click here.
Happy Birthday to the following summer birthdays:
5/29 Deb Meyer
6/14 Renee Kramer
6/15 Cricket Smith
6/16 Marge Tobe
6/20 Jean Hileman
6/22 Kelly Black
6/23 Kelly Newcomb
